Frequently Asked Questions

Household pests are more than just, well, a pest. They can pose some very real hazards – to both your physical health and the structural health of your home or building. Did you know, for example, that termites damage approximately 600,000 homes in the U.S. each year, with residents spending an estimated $5 billion annually to control termites and repair termite damage? Or that cockroaches and dust mites can trigger asthma? Or that mice can contaminate your food?

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about the most common pests in your area, and what you should do about them? We have answers.

With more than 50 years’ combined experience providing pest control services in Rockwall, Texas, and surrounding areas, there’s very little we haven’t seen, or don’t know, when it comes to pests, controlling them, what you should be worried about (nothing, if you get the right people in to sort your pest problem out), where you should be looking for potential bug problems, and what you need to know about pest control in general. Here, we answer some of your most frequently asked questions about pests and pest control.

I hear scratching in my attic. What is it?

If it’s at night, you might have a rodent problem. Rats and mice commonly cause noise at night, and commonly in your attic. It goes without saying that both a rat and mouse infestation needs to be dealt with.

If it’s during the day, it might be squirrels or birds. These are usually active during the day and aren’t usually a cause for concern as they aren’t living in your attic.

I’ve seen one mouse/ant/cockroach/creepy crawly creature; are there more and should I be concerned?

Yes. And yes. Mice, for example, proliferate quickly and live in large families, ranging from seven to 20 members. Moreover, mice produce, on average, 70 droppings and 3000 micro-droplets of urine every 24 hours, which, aside from being really disgusting, can cause major health issues. As for ants and cockroaches – ever heard of an ant colony or an intrusion of cockroaches? Both are social insects, as, indeed, are most insects, which means they live in large colonies or groups. Depending on the species, ant colonies can consist of millions of ants, and as for cockroaches, even just two is two too many (and they can live in family groups in the hundreds). You have an intrusion, and it’s time to call the experts.

What safety precautions do you take when treating my home/business?

We always practice Integrated Pest Management to ensure that we fix your pest problem using tools, materials and products that minimize overall economic, health and environmental risks. When pesticides are required, we use the least toxic but effective materials and application methods against your specific target pest.

Furthermore, for most of our services, no special precautions are required on your part. Our technicians always follow required safety precautions and are committed to keeping you and your family safe as well as your home pest-free. If you are required to vacate your home, we request longer vacating times than recommended, to ensure complete safety for all.

Can professional pest control help alleviate asthma?

Cockroaches are a known leading trigger of allergies and asthma attacks. These pests’ saliva, droppings and decomposing bodies contain allergen proteins known to trigger allergies and increase the severity of asthma symptoms, particularly in children. Proper pest control, enacted by licensed professionals, can eliminate these pests and prevent them from returning, thereby removing the source of the allergens and thus alleviating the condition.

I have found droppings in my home; what are they and what do I do?

Any droppings and insect- or pest-related damages you observe in your home or business could be from a number of possible pests. Our certified, licensed professional exterminators know pests and will be able to tell you exactly what you are dealing with. We will assess your home, taking into consideration the type and location of debris and damage left behind by the pest, find potential nests, sleuth the source of the problem, and eliminate every last vestige of pest presence.

Allowing our technicians to assess your home, and correctly identify your pest guest, will allow our technicians to build a treatment plan tailored to your specific home environment and pest situation. We have treatment plans to suit every situation and budget.

When should I call pest control?

If you have even the slightest suspicion that you have a pest problem, then you probably do. At the first signs of rodents, insects or pests in your home, property, or business, give us a call as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the larger pest populations will grow, and the more damage or contamination they will cause. We will conduct a thorough assessment and present treatment options specific to your home and your particular pest problem.

I had a professional pest control treatment done in my home. Why am I still seeing bugs?

After the initial treatment, it is normal to experience insect activity for up to two weeks. Furthermore, it is not uncommon, particularly with sizable pest infestations, to require follow up treatments. Our services include doing interval treatments after an initial ‘cleanout’ to ensure your home doesn’t become home to any lingering unwanted guests.

Our technicians will explain our treatment cycles in relation to your particular pest problem, and we will work with you to find a solution that ensures a long-lasting successful pest control program for your property.
